Resilience is the capacity to bounce back after difficulties. Transformation describes a thorough or dramatic change. We named the practice Resilience & Transformation Psychotherapy Center because we are passionate about helping clients become more resilient and transform their lives, including their self-perceptions. When addressed in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner, healing from trauma can lead to growth and greater resilience.
People are doing the best they can with the resources they have at the time. When faced with discomfort, people naturally tend to seek methods to reduce their discomfort. Sometimes this results in over-reliance on problematic behaviors, such as disordered eating, substance use, compulsive behaviors, codependency, and overworking. These problematic behaviors are coping skills. The goal of therapy, in these situations, is to transform reliance on problematic coping skills to a greater use of functional coping skills and to address traumatic experiences that led to over reliance on problematic coping skills to being with.
